Call to Worship:
Grace and peace to you from the One who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Alpha and Omega—the beginning and the end. This is our God— the One who loves us, and who gave himself for us; who gathers us together, and bids us seek his face. Let’s worship God together! (Adapted from Revelation 1:4-8)

Song:

Call to Confession:
Friends, our high priest, Jesus Christ, knows all our weaknesses, and can sympathize, because he was tested in every way we are, only without sinning. So let’s come boldly to the throne of grace, where we can find mercy and grace to help when we need it most.  (Adapted from Hebrews 4:15-16)

Confession of Sin:
Eternal God, in whom we live and move and have our being, whose face is hidden from us by our sins, and whose mercy we forget in the blindness of our hearts: cleanse us from all our offenses, and deliver us from proud thoughts and vain desires, that with reverent and humble hearts we may draw near to you, confessing our faults, confiding in your grace, and finding in you our refuge and strength; through Jesus Christ your Son.
(Book of Common Worship, PCUSA, 1993)

Assurance of Pardon:
“…But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God me merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.’” (Luke 18:13-14)

Song:

Reflection:
1 Peter 2:13-17
“Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, 14 or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. 15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. 16 Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. 17 Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.”

Song:
